I very much look up to anyone who is able to go through lifes ups and downs and maintain their smile. To me, it says I’m not going to let outside things effect my inner peace. As for me, I can tend to veer toward having the occasional pity party. I would always attemp to keep my emotions in check but that doesn’t mean I’m going to walk around smiling. The goal is to not walk around frowning…or am I missing it entirly?
So…Is it more cowardly or courageous to smile when your circumstances say to frown? Is it “fake” to “try” and project the opposite of what you’re feeling?
Fake: Not genuine; counterfeit..Synonyms: Fraud, hoax, imitation..
No one wants to be seen as “fake”. That comes with the conotation that you can’t be trusted. No one will ever prefer a counterfeit over the original. That is also inclusive of our interactions. We want to know that we truly KNOW the people that we surround ourselves with. The moment we see something that doesn’t line up to what we recognize in someone that sends up a huge red “fake” flag and will often lead to us retreating in either minor or major ways. In this ever changing world of “alternative facts” us humans like stability.
What I realized as a follower of Christ: The smile wasn’t fake. We all have tons of things happening on a day by day basis that, if we allow it to, will dictate our actions making us all seem a little unstable or fake. This world has a way of making you walk through some horrifiying valleys while demanding that you show up for life simultaniously.
Christ truly makes the difference. With every over the top pity party that I’ve ever thrown I can always remember being “forced” to stop and look at my circumstances from a different perspective. Some how anytime I felt bad something or someone “forced” me to take my focus off of me. Life presented me with the REAL prespective of thankfullness and gratitude. Leaving me with the overall feeling that if Christ is truly my leader the smile you see me wearing has nothing to do with my circumstances. It has everything to do with the knowing that God’s plan is in affect in my life and whatever I’m facing I have been graced and equipped to handle.
Who wouldn’t smile or even laugh when you know that the creator of heaven and earth is ” Team YOU”? Fake will only happen when you’re pretending. There is no pretense in my smile. I will live loved and refuse to allow life to bully me into wearing my ever changing emotions as a badge of honor when I’m busy wearing Christ’s LOVE, Grace, and Mercy.
